The Converge Quartet: Cassidy Goldblatt, Bram Margoles, Ryan McDonald, and Kellen Degnan
NOTE
This work evokes the microtonal, wailing strains of traditional Jewish cantorial singing, as well as the harmonic language and textures of such 20th-century Russian masters as Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky. It was one of my most rhapsodically composed works, written in a snow-induced manic flurry in January 2006, and it has a delightfully instinctive freedom to it that probably was only accessible to me in the blissful naïveté of youth. The updated version posted here was revised and rescored in 2015 for the Converge Quartet.
