NOTES

This work evokes the microtonal, wailing strains of traditional Jewish cantorial singing, as well as the harmonic language and textures of such 20th-century Russian masters as Shostakovich, Prokofiev, and Stravinsky. It was one of my most rhapsodically composed works, written in a snow-induced manic flurry in January 2006.
