NOTE
Five–Six–Seven–Eight is dedicated to Alarm Will Sound, for whom the work was written. The work consists of four miniatures, each between one and two minutes in length. The title, a reference to the common bandstand count-in, reflects the different dancelike characters of each miniature, which draw inspiration from my research into folk and classical dance styles from around the world.
The work in its original Sinfonietta instrumentation was premiered by Alarm Will Sound at the 2014 Mizzou International Composers Festival in Columbia, Missouri.
The version for Symphony Orchestra was commissioned and premiered by Yaniv Segal and the Naples Philharmonic Orchestra, and then revised and expanded for the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra in 2016.
