Teaching

Michael is a passionate teacher of composition, theory, piano, and improvisation. He believes that we are never more human than when we express ourselves creatively. In a world of such rapid cultural and ecological change, now more than ever the simple act of making something beautiful is vital and radical.

With over ten years of teaching experience both privately and at the university level, Michael maintains a small studio of dedicated students. Students meet in a combination of regular private lessons and group studio sessions, both in-person and remotely.

Though students pursue areas of focus aligned with their passions, Michael’s teaching encompasses holistic musicianship spanning the following areas:

— Music composition in any style (concert hall, stage, screen, songwriting)

— Improvisation, harmony, ear training, and theory

— Piano and keyboard skills (classical, jazz, collaborative, improvisation)

— Orchestration, arranging, and music production
