NOTE

This work was commissioned by my friend Eddie Goodman on the occasion of his Masters’ recital at the University of Michigan. It explores the technical and expressive resources of the tenor saxophone, drawing as much as possible from a single five-note cell based on his name, E-D-D-F(=I)-E, which in turn maps out into the tonal areas of the five movements of the piece.
