NOTE
“Moving from the Inside Out” was written as a collaboration for my friend Jessica Post’s MA thesis in dance at the University of Michigan. A modern dance piece for three dancers (plus solo cameos by Jessica herself), Jessica and I decided on an instrumental ensemble of clarinet, violin, and cello, each of which aligns with one of the dancers. The arrhythmic choreography is alternately reflected by similarly abstract music and juxtaposed against more regular, metered music; correspondingly, the different groupings of the dancers are sometimes reflected by or contrasted with the groupings of the accompanying ensemble.
