NOTE

This work was commissioned by my dear friend Matthew Hall (and the Church of Our Savior in Brookline, where he served as organist at the time) for Easter services in the spring of 2011. In the dark and ominous Prelude, I set the chant line accompanying the text “Terra tremuit” as a cantus firmus; the tension of the Prelude bubbles over into the effervescent and (hopefully!) redemptive Toccata.
