Michael is selected to participate in the 2014 Mizzou New Music Festival, for which he will compose a new work for Alarm Will Sound.

The University of Michigan Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kenneth Kiesler, premieres “Rhapsody in Maize and Blue” in UMS subscription concert featuring Audra McDonald; Hill Auditorium, Ann Arbor.

July 2013

On the occasion of the University of Michigan’s historic partnership with the Gershwin family, Michael has been commissioned to compose a mash-up of “Rhapsody in Blue” and Michigan’s fight song, “Hail to the Victors.”


June 2013

Michael has been commissioned to write a new work for the Vocal Essence Ensemble Singers‘ 2014-2015 season.


May 2013

Michael accepts a 2013 BMI Student Composers’ Award. The winning work, Three Wallace Stevens Songs for SATB Chorus, is programmed by the New York Virtuoso Singers (Harold Rosenbaum, conductor) for its world premiere in Merkin Hall, NYC (March 2014).

Oseh Shalom wins the audience and performer vote at the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra concerts, resulting in three additional performances in November 2013.


April 2013

Michael attended the American Composers’ Forum “Essentially Choral” readings, working with the Vocal Essence Ensemble Singers and Philip Brunelle.


March 2013

Michael has been commissioned to write a new work for the Aurea Silva Trio’s forthcoming studio release.


January 2013

Oseh Shalom is named a winner in the Berkeley Community Chorus and Orchestra composition competition, resulting in three performances in Berkeley in May 2013. Congrats also to Keane Southard and Costas Dafnis for your winning entries!


December 2012

Due to the ongoing labor dispute, the Minnesota Orchestra will now perform Freylekhe Tanzen in the “Future Classics” concert in January 2014.
